About

Gayle started learning to play the oboe at the age of 13 whilst at High School, after quickly falling in love with the tone of the oboe she joined the Junior Department at the Royal Conservative of Scotland studying oboe and piano, under the tutelage of Stephen West and Anna Rastopchina.

It was during this period that Gayle joined the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and performed with the Orchestra as Principal Cor Anglais during their tour of China in 2015 and in BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016.

Gayle studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, after successfully gaining a scholarship place in 2014, achieving her BMus Hons in performance and subsequently MMus in Orchestral Performance with the support of The John Macintyre Memorial Trust Scholarship. Whilst at RWCMD Gayle studied under John Anderson, Alan Garner, Catriona McKinnon, Amy McKean and Sarah-Jayne Porsmoguer.

Studying at RWCMD allowed Gayle to develop her love of orchestral music and let her passion for chamber music flourish. In addition, it gave her the opportunity to regularly perform with Weston Winds in and around Wales as well as a tour with Pascal Gallois in France, for The Quiberon Music Festival.

Gayle has successfully participated in numerous competitions and was twice highly commended in RWCMD double reed prize, winner of the Wind Plus Quintet Competition and the winner of TFK soloist platform prize. Gayle also gained an orchestral placement for two years with both BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera.

Whilst at RWCMD she was privileged to play in master classes for oboists such as Nicolas Daniels, Alison Teale and Celia Craig taking inspiration from them in terms of musicality as well as their approach to teaching.

Gayle has enjoyed a varied performance career so far, having played with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, British Sinfonietta and The Studio Orchestra, as well as the National Musical Theatre Orchestra of Wales.

Gayle currently teaches Oboe at the Cathedral School Llandaff. She offers music tuition in Woodwind as well as Piano and has had notable success with one of her students gaining a place with the National Childrens Orchestra of Great Britain. Gayle hopes to further develop, and inspire others with her love of music.
